Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you had a great week.
Today I’m going to be answering some questions I get asked frequently (as you probably guessed by the title). 😅
1. What kind of camera do you use?
I use a Canon Rebel t3i for photos like this:
and a Canon 5d Mark II for everything else! I prefer the t3i when I’m taking pictures of myself because the Mark II doesn’t have a flip-out screen.
2. Where are you from?
I’m from North Carolina! I love living here because I’m about equal distance to the beach and the mountains. I can’t imagine living somewhere in central United States without being near to a beach!
3. How old are you?
16 – I turn 17 on September 1. And no, I don’t have my drivers license. I got my permit a month before my 16th birthday!
4. Do you go to public or private school?
Neither, I’m homeschooled. I went to private school from kindergarten to second grade, and I’ve been homeschooled ever since.
5. How long have you been blogging?
I made my first blog in 2014, but I started doing it seriously in August of 2017.
6. Who takes the pictures on your Instagram and blog?
Both my mom and I do! Basically the way to tell is if you can see my hands, she took the photo. If it’s just of my face, I most likely took it! I also take all of the product photos.
7. How do you edit your Instagram pictures?
Lately I’ve been going with a neutral-toned theme like this:
I edit my photos in Lightroom, and with most of them I increase the exposure and highlights, boost the contrast, and lower the saturation. Here’s a before and after:
8. Do you have any tips for growing my Instagram account?
First of all, don’t worry about follower count! I always get excited when I reach a bigger number like 500 or 600, but it’s important to keep in mind that it’s just a number. You can have amazing content and still not have many followers! Just be grateful for every person who takes the time to like your photos and comment on them instead of constantly trying to get more. If you’re serious about growing your account, try doing shoutout for shoutouts on your Instagram stories with accounts that you genuinely like. You can also follow accounts that are similar to yours, because they will typically follow back. Only follow people you actually want in your feed, though! And DEFINITELY don’t follow to unfollow – it’s frankly rude and not fair to other accounts. They work just as hard as you do and deserve better. Lastly, post content that you love and you’re confident in, and be proud of your page! No one else can do you like you can. Let people follow for the actual you, not a “filtered” version of yourself.
9. How do you get to work with brands?
It’s definitely a process! If you’re considering starting a blog, don’t do it just because you want “free stuff”. It takes a while to build a quality platform that brands trust to provide an accurate portrayal of their products. Once you have a small following and several posts, you can start reaching out to brands via email or Instagram message. I received a partnership opportunity with Tarte because I included one of their products in a post and emailed them with a link. They offered to send me more makeup in exchange for a blog post featuring them. I’ve yet to have a paying sponsorship opportunity, but I’m still a relatively new blogger. Be proactive with contacting brands you love, and you might be surprised with their response.
10. How do I start a blog?
WordPress is an amazing free site to start out on – I’m still using the free version and it’s been great. You can pick your blog URL, then set up your format using their easy templates. They make it so accessible for anyone that wants to start a blog! Once you get your blog ‘skeleton’ done, you can start writing posts. Be sure that you write about things you’re passionate about – if you believe in and enjoy what you’re writing, your readers will too.
I hope this post helped answer some of your questions! If you have any more feel free to reach out to me on Instagram.
Have a lovely weekend! 💕
