Hey guys! First off I’d like to apologize for disappearing on my blog/Instagram the past week or so. I’ll get to why that happened later on in this post, but just know that I feel so bad about leaving y’all hanging! I hope you had a great Christmas with your family, I know that I really enjoyed the time I got to spend at home.
This post is going to be a glance back at what was going on in my life this year, month by month. I’m going to also link the playlist I made for each month if you want to hear my “soundtrack” to life. I hope you enjoy! It’s a long one, so stick with me. I think you’ll be glad that you did.
Oh, the month of “I’m going to eat healthier and work out and read more and stay off my phone at night and start a journal”…yeah, that didn’t stay consistent for me. I actually did work out and eat healthy for several months to get in shape for volleyball, but I’ll admit that it didn’t last. Come December, I was eating a box of mac and cheese for lunch at least once a week.
On January 1, my neighbor and I threw a surprise anniversary party for her parents. They were supposed to come back from their grandparents house (2+ hours away) several days earlier, but they ended up coming home on the NIGHT OF THE PARTY. That was a stressful time. We had about two hours to find a cake (praise the Lord for Walmart), balloons, and table decorations. Everything came together, though, and we managed to keep it a surprise!
On January 31 I went to see Les Miserables with some of our friends. It was truly amazing and I’ll never forget it!
Speaking of Les Mis, the playlist I linked for this month is made up of some of my favorite songs from the show. For some reason I didn’t make a playlist for January, I apparently decided to slack off in the most productive month of the year.
The Winter Olympics started on the 8th!! Because I’m homeschooled, my family kept it on in the background the entire time it was on. We’d walk into the den occasionally just to keep up with the events.
Literally nothing else happened in February. I’m looking at my mom’s calendar and it’s just school and the occasional errand. Exciting, I know.
My playlist for February was pretty awesome! I remember standing in Lidl (a grocery store in my area) and hearing a song come on that I really liked. I didn’t have Shazam at the time so I was desperately trying to remember a few words to look up when I got home. Thank goodness I did, I found out that it was Hey Brother by Avicii and now it’s one of my all-time favorite songs! You can listen to that one and 40 others on my February playlist.
I got my prom dress in March! I’d never been to prom so this was a big deal for me. You’ll have to wait until the April recap to see the dress though. 😋 Although if you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll have seen photos already.
I interviewed for my summer job which was THE MOST STRESSFUL THING even though I had already worked the summer before. (Spoiler: I got the job.)
It snowed on the 12th which is ridiculous. If you’ve ever been to NC, you’ll know that the weather here has a mind of its own. We hardly ever get snow, but when we do, it’s on a random day in the spring or fall that makes 0 sense to be snowing on.
My favorite song of the month was definitely Next to Me by Imagine Dragons. I love the waltz tempo and the message behind the lyrics.
Spring formal was this month! I went with a group of friends, although one of the guys in the group would become my boyfriend in the span of a couple of months. 🙊
I got my dress from Ross for around $25!! Be sure to check there if you’re looking for an inexpensive formal/prom dress. I absolutely love this dress and I wish I’d have another opportunity to wear it.
I was also a counselor at the weekend camp for 3rd-5th graders with my church. It was so much fun, but I came home with a nasty cold. Spending the weekend with kids is not the best way to avoid viruses.
I met an online friend named Stuart this month! We’ve been friends for a long time and it was great finally being able to meet him.
My favorite song was probably Lovely by Billie Eilish and Khalid. I love both of their voices, and together they sound so beautiful….or I guess you could say they sounded “lovely”.
Ha. I’m hilarious.
May was a very exciting month. I took the SAT, I went to prom for the first time, I had my first sponsored post, and I also went on my first date! So many milestones.
The SAT was pure torture, thank goodness I never have to do that again.
Prom was a blast – the food and music were great, the company was even better. That same guy (hi Stephen) was part of the group that went, but we still weren’t together. We didn’t dance together either, but just you wait until next year’s prom.
The dress I got was actually vintage! It had gorgeous beading and sequins all over it, I loved it so much. My hair was a STRUGGLE to put up – it’s so thick and it doesn’t like to stay in one place without 423987823 bobby pins.
2 days after prom, Stephen asked me out. I was kind of in shock honestly, I’d never been asked out on a date before so I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I said yes, of course. I liked him. A lot. (Still do! Love him, actually.) We went to go see Infinity War which was extremely emotionally scarring, but it was still a fun first date.
I partnered with College Board to talk about my future college plans which was such an incredible opportunity. At this point I had collaborated with other brands but never actually been sponsored before.
I didn’t really have a favorite song this month, I was loving a lot of music! You can check out the playlist to see what I was listening to.
I started working in June which was so much fun. I worked with 2nd-5th grade kids all summer – we had water days, did science experiments, cooked…it was amazing. I love working with kids and forming relationships with them!
My family went to the beach for the day with my boyfriend’s family which was really nice. We went to the beach with them again in September but there was an incident…keep reading down to September to find out what it was.
Other than working and going to the pool with my mom, June was relatively uneventful.
My favorite song from June was Born to be Yours by Imagine Dragons and Kygo. It’s so good and is one of my favorite songs to this day!
July was a hard month. It started out great – I went to weddings on back-to-back weekends. I love going to weddings, watching two people in love start the beginning of their lives together is so wonderful to watch.
My grandpa passed away on July 19th very unexpectedly. This was a really difficult time for my family as it came out of nowhere and we weren’t quite sure where to go from there or how to cope. We were very grateful for all the support and love we got from our family and friends.
At the end of July, I went to summer camp with my church youth group. This was so much fun, it really helped take my mind off of my grandpa and I loved being able to spend time with my friends. It rained the entire week which was slightly annoying, but it made for great memories. We did every activity, regardless of the rain. As a glasses-wearing human that was a challenge for me, but it was still a lot of fun.
My favorite song from July was Between U and Me by Neon Feather! He married my cousin at the beginning of July and they played this song at their wedding. It was the cutest thing ever, oh my gosh.
August was the start of volleyball season and the start of school. I was an outside hitter on my team which was THE MOST FUN and I’m hoping to have the same position next year.
The camp I worked at ended on the 10th – I was kind of glad to not be working so much, but I had grown close to a lot of the kids so it was hard to say goodbye.
My first college course through Liberty Online started the 27th! It was just an introductory class but it gave me my first taste of what a college workload is like.
My favorite song was High Hopes by P!ATD. It’s still one of my faves.
It’s my birthday month! I turned 17 on the first.
I had 2-3 volleyball games a week this month. It was stressful at times but I loved getting to see my teammates so often and playing alongside of them.
Remember how I said to stay tuned for the other beach trip? Yeah, this is it. My family and Stephen’s family were going to take a week-long vacation together on the NC coast. There was a potential hurricane threat but it was possible that it might miss us, so we went anyways. We had one full day at the beach before we had to evacuate. That was super disappointing but we’re hoping to try again next year and NOT go during hurricane season.
Stephen and I went to the fair on the 20th and I’ve never been more dizzy in my life. Don’t ride the spinning swing thing (yay rhymes) if you get dizzy easily. You’d think that would be a no-brainer, but apparently not for me.
Dancing With the Stars started on the 24th which is always an exciting day. My mom and I have been watching this for years!
My favorite song of the month was Happier by Bastille. I recently watched the music video for it and I don’t recommend it unless you feel like bawling your eyes out. You have been warned.
October was a pretty boring month. It was full of school and the volleyball season ended on the 12th.
The new Twenty One Pilots album came out on the 5th! If you know me at all, you know that I’m a forever member of the clique. Tyler and Josh for lifeee.
Several of my friends and I started a Bible study on Tuesday nights that has continued to present day. We had an interesting encounter with a guy on our first night that tried to convince us that he was as perfect as Jesus and that the Bible is dead. There are some weirdos at Dunkin Donuts, let me tell you.
My senior girls small group and I dressed up as characters from Up for my church’s trick-or-treat! I did an elaborate makeup look for my character (Kevin) and that was a lot of fun. I really want to try doing some more colorful makeup looks in the future.
My favorite song of the month was Bandito by Twenty One Pilots…and also every other song on their new album.
November kicked off the start of my next round of college classes – English and Bible. I really enjoyed these and I got decent grades.
I went to the Live Original tour featuring Sadie Robertson, Hollyn, and Social Club Misfits! It was a blast, Sadie is a great speaker and the music was wonderful.
I got to see my half-siblings the weekend after Thanksgiving which is always a treat. They live in Georgia and it’s hard only getting to see them a few times a year. I’m so thankful for the opportunities I get to visit!
We put up our Christmas tree on the 25th and watched Elf like we do every year. It seemed like we had JUST done that, and yet there we were again. The year seemed to have flown by.
My favorite song was Zero by Imagine Dragons, although I admittedly love every song they come out with. I don’t think it’s possible for them to make bad music.
This was an interesting month, for sure. The first couple of weeks went as usual – Christmas parties, Hallmark movies – but on the 15th, Stephen and I could have been taken away from that forever. We were going straight at an intersection with a green light and a lady going the opposite direction turned left in front of us. We were already in the intersection so there was no time to react or do anything except try to hit the least amount of her car as possible. We were so blessed to walk away with only some scrapes and bruises. I’m still hurting in various joints and my back, but Stephen is basically back to normal. If you had been at the scene, you would have seen mere inches between Stephen’s car and a transformer box. I don’t want to think about what would have happened if we had hit that.
Although this Christmas was a difficult one for several reasons, my family and Stephen’s family were grateful that the accident wasn’t any worse.
I still plan on posting a “What I Got for Christmas” haul soon if you guys are still interested in that! I haven’t felt up to taking photos because changing in and out of clothes with your body feeling like it was beaten up isn’t the easiest thing in the world. I’m on the mend though so I definitely want to take the photos as soon as possible.
My favorite song was Hey Look Ma, I Made It! by P!ATD. I’m obsessed with this song currently!
My most popular post was My Top 25 Songs for 2018.
Wow. This is the longest blog post I’ve ever written. This is longer than any paper I’ve written for school. If you read this entire thing I’m genuinely so proud of you, I’d buy you a Starbucks drink if I could.
Cheers to 2019 guys, let’s make it the best year yet.
